We do love a Garden Makeover and we were especially pleased with this one we completed back in June for our clients. Following an extension to the property, the builders had built over the existing patio and some of the garden, so the garden needed a redesign. The plans were drawn up and our landscaping team set to work on renovating the Garden.
Working full time and having children meant that the family didn’t have a lot of time to spend maintaining the garden. We worked on a design to transform their garden from an overgrown jungle to a simple, easy to manage garden, with a spacious new lawn as the focal point where their children could run around and play and be seen easily from the house.
The garden was previously completely overgrown, so we set to work cutting the vast amount of plants and shrubs back first. There was quite mature planting around the boundary of the garden already and so we cut it down to fence height to make it more manageable. We actually removed so much debris from the garden that we filled a twenty-ton grab lorry!
We also removed the old lawn and installed an irrigation system throughout the area of lawn. We then laid eight tons of soil over the top in order to level the ground, before laying the new turf over the top. It’s a good job we added the irrigation because June was extremely hot and so the grass needed constant water to keep it alive. This also means that the lawn can be easily watered during the warmer months moving forwards.
The family were hoping to spend a lot of their time outdoors and to be able to transfer easily from their bi-fold doors straight out into the garden. We laid a large porcelain patio outside the back of the house with two large steps up to the bi-fold doors, providing access inside.
To create a pleasant feel around the patio, we erected sleeper beds either side of the patio which we then filled with plants to brighten up the space.
Our clients now have a simple to maintain space where they can relax and enjoy the outdoors and also a garden which they can develop further in the future too.
As we mentioned, we do love working on Garden Makeovers. If you are considering a Garden renovation either for this year or next, then why not give us a call as we’d love to help you create your dream garden design!
